A policy excess is the amount you are responsible to pay towards making a claim. This amount will depend on your level of cover and the section of the policy you’re claiming under.
For example, if you have a Southdowns Gold policy and make a valid claim of £500 for a trip cancellation, the excess for the cancellation section is £100 so you would receive £400 after the excess deduction.

If you’ve already purchased insurance, the excess amounts for each section of your policy are listed in your policy wording.
